Abbotsbrooke (A preserved railway)During the 1800's everybody wanted a railway connected to their town or village to be able to move people and goods traffic. Of the many that were constructed, some are still with us today but many succumbed to the closing axe due to lack of patronage and increasing running costs together with the competition of the motor vehicle.
Abbotsbrooke represents just one of these closed railways. Fortunately the preservation movement was able to finance and purchase the railway and infrastructure and then setup a preserved railway. After years of hard work the railway can now boast a good selection of rolling stock, well maintained track and infrastructure. The railway is fortunate to have a connection with the mainline so excursion trains are able to travel down the preserved line. This enables the railway to run heritage trains for the public to experience steam travel as in bygone days.
